Skate Station – Urban Dance Animation
This project was my semester project in Animation at the University of Applied Sciences Salzburg.
Skate Station is an urban-inspired character and environment project. The core idea was to create a stylized street character dancing inside a graffiti-filled subway station, capturing raw city energy and movement.
The character was sculpted in ZBrush, with clothing created and simulated in Marvelous Designer to achieve realistic folds and fabric behavior. The subway (S-Bahn) and additional environment elements were modeled in Maya and textured in Substance 3D Painter. Some additional assets were sourced from Fab (Unreal Marketplace) to support the final scene composition.
The entire project was assembled, lit and rendered in Unreal Engine 5, where all elements came together into the final animation.
A major challenge during production was retopology and clothing simulation. I struggled with clean topology flow and encountered issues with fabric behavior and collision. However, through multiple iterations and problem-solving, I managed to resolve these obstacles and significantly improved my workflow and technical understanding.
It was a long process with many mistakes along the way — but in the end, I reached my goal and am satisfied with the final result.
